If a city life pushed you too hard, a good break to the country side is a very healthier choice. Mangrove Sanctuary Resort, which as its name suggested, situated in the Peam Krasaop Mangrove Wildlife Sanctuary (Maps here), surrounded by lust mangrove forest and the river breeze all around.
Getting There
Since early 2010s, road condition has improved steadily. Probably the best way of getting there is to take a bus or mini-van to Krong Khemarakphumin Town (Koh Kong) first and then heading to the resort. From Phnom Penh, a few bus/mini-van companies operate daily trip. Virakbuntham, at the time of writing, operates the 7:30AM and the 1:30PM minivan to and from Koh Kong, at 10$ each person per trip. You could expect a 5h30m to 6 hours trip, which consists of primary two road sections: one runs mostly straight from Phnom Penh to Pichnil, and then a sickening zig-zag road from Pichnil to Koh Kong. You will have one 15-minute stop or possibly two during the trip: one at Pichnil.
When you arrive at Koh Kong, you can hop on a tuk-tuk (5$ per tuk tuk per trip) or rent a motorcycle to get the resort, which will take around 10-15 minutes. Road condition is paved and somewhat acceptable. You will see a large overhead banner telling you arrive at the resort. There is a spacious parking lot (at your own risk) for your disposal at the hotel.

Rooms
There are two types of rooms available: one with single or twin beds and the so-called "Apartment" with two king beds which should be able to suit up to 8 persons. All rooms are situated above the ground, overlooking the mangrove forest and/or the river. Your typical amenities such as air conditioner, mini fridge, mini bar, kettle, hot/cold shower are surprisingly included in this remote hotel. WiFi is somewhat slow, but acceptable, considering this is in the middle of nowhere, plus, we do not want to waste so much time on being connected at this very location. Rooms are built surrounding terrace, making walking around the room possible. We really have no complain considering the location and the atmosphere around the room.
Tips: Room 101 is the best sing bed room because it overlooks to the river and the forest.

Facilities
At entrance, there is a security post, making you feel safe since the beginning. Parking is also free and spacious. There is large restaurant by the river, serving both local and western dishes. All foods are halal (meaning no pork). Each room is connected to the main wooden walk board, which is lit at night, by a small gateway with a crossover rope and a banner telling "Do Not Disturb", pretty good move by the designer. WiFi is available throughout the premise. A fresh water swimming pool is found at the western end of the resort with space for sunbathing and an almost 360-degree view of the river.

Wow Factors and Verdicts
Wow Factors: At low tide, you will hear a type of clam shell producing a popping sound right under your room. Star gazing is also a great thing to do at night since there is little light pollution. A clean fresh water pool in the forest is an amazing experience to do. You can also book a private boat tour around the mangrove forest for around US$25 as well.
However, this is not without its shortcoming. At weekends and public holidays, many locals flocking in the whole mangrove area, sort of reducing the natural beauty of this place. They also charge extra for weekend on the basis of the low supply/high demand theory.
We would totally recommend this place if you are finding an escape plan
from the city to a natural location but with enough facilities for your
21st century life.
